I graduated in Nutritional Sciences from University of Porto BSc (Hons), Portugal, later started my PhD in Biopathological Sciences from University of Lisbon, Portugal (in collaboration with Queen Mary University of London, UK). During my PhD project at the Blizard Institute of Cell and Molecular Science in London, I have investigated lipid, muscle and liver metabolism in obesity- related type 2 diabetes. I am currently working in a research study, at the Human Nutrition Unit, School of Biological Sciences, University of Auckland. The research project where I am actively involved is an international research trial to determine the preventive effect of a high protein, low glycaemic index diet associated with physical activity, on the incidence of type 2 diabetes in a predisposed, pre-diabetic cohort population. My background in Human Nutrition was crucial for the studies currently being carried on.
